The Mandarin Duck is a symbol of happiness and marital fidelity in China and Japan, due to its monogamous nature. The pair forms a life-long bond. When they find a partner, they will stick with that same partner for the rest of their lives. It is said that if they are ever separated, they will pine for each other and will soon die of loneliness. There's actually a fantastical story behind the Mandarin Ducks. A very romantic one.
